Share with us #WhatMakesSG hawker culture an integral part of Singapore's unique history through the #OurHawkerCulture photo contest!

Do you know #WHATMAKESSG Hawker Culture a national treasure? A riot of flavours? The taste of nostalgia? Think you can tell us through your lens?

It is not just about the food. Our hawker culture also celebrates time-honoured techniques and traditions that have been passed down through generations. Hawker centres are community dining spaces where Singaporeans from all walks of life come together to enjoy a meal.

In Aug 2018, Prime Minister Lee announced Singapore’s nomination of Hawker Culture for UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. National Geographic, in partnership with the Ministry of Communications and Information, is calling on viewers to share what Singapore Hawker Culture means to them, creating a visual petition to the rest of the world.

From 17 December to 27 January 2019, send us your photographs that represent what makes you proud about Singapore’s hawker culture. Submit them together with a caption of minimally 140 characters via Instagram with the hashtags #WhatMakesSG and #OurHawkerCulture. Do remember to tag and follow @natgeoasia and, and make your account public.
